An attempt that was successful, that's probably the best way to describe it.
In 2019, Herbert Baier decided to start an experiment - to try something new and innovative. We're talking about a wine - matured in a granite barrel.
But what actually makes granite so special?
Storage in granite barrels is definitely a completely new way of developing wine. The rough surface of the granite's inner wall multiplies the contact with the wine, the stone absorbs the pores in the granite - the wine thus receives the ideal supply of oxygen to mature. Sensorially, the wine is perceived as more velvety and fruity, and acid peaks are smoothed out. Wine from the granite barrel resembles wine that has already aged for a few years, but without losing its primary fruitiness.
